Research Topic: One Health approach to evaluate infectious diseases
Project and Position Details: We seek highly motivated students interested in developing interdisciplinary research skills, including data management, survey techniques, and community engagement. The overall goal of our lab is to understand the interactions between different environmental factors and microbes using a One Health framework, or the shared health of humans, animal and the environment. The specific project the student will be involved with is investigating farmers' risk factor of tick-borne diseases.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist with survey deployment in the agricultural community, virtually and by mail.
- Support survey data entry and management.
- Aid in communication to participants and stakeholders.
- Learn and conduct basic quantitative analyses using Excel and other research software programs (REDCap)
Depending on the individual, the applicant may have the opportunity to work on independent projects. The individual will also have the chance to work with graduate student mentors. There are also other projects in the lab that the student could assist with (see lab website for further details on current research).
Qualifications: Students are reliable, organized, pay attention to details, able to work independently, and interested in pursuing a research career. No prior research experience is necessary but having public health knowledge through previous coursework would be helpful.
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours a week, more in summer
