Project and Position Details: Our research seeks to understand how inter-organ metabolite exchange and metabolic dysregulation contribute to the development and progression of diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Students will have opportunities to gain hands-on experience in metabolomics, bioinformatics, molecular and biochemical assays, stable isotope tracing, and animal studies.

At my previous institutions, the University of California, Irvine and the University of California, San Diego, I mentored more than 14 undergraduate-level students, several of whom became co-authors on scientific manuscripts. In fact, one undergraduate student recently published a first-author paper in Science Advances. I am strongly committed to creating meaningful research opportunities for undergraduate students and actively encourage them to make substantial contributions that can lead to authorship on scientific publications.
