I study volcanology with Dr. Ingrid Ukstins in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. We are interested in the volcanic field under the city of Auckland, New Zealand. We use olivine crystals that form in magma to quantify magma ascension rates of several volcanoes in this field. This can provide insight into the poorly defined structure of the lithospheric mantle below Auckland as well as improve public safety/evacuation plans for the city.
Outside of the lab, I love playing violin with my string quartet, knitting, gardening, and falling asleep. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and eating mint chocolate chip ice cream from Bread Garden. My long term plans include pursuing doctoral studies in geomicrobiology and becoming an astrobiologist.
