Hi! My name is Hiruni Sumanasiri and I'm a senior majoring in microbiology and minoring in global health science. 

I'm currently an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Kristina Thiel's lab for the department of Gynecology Oncology where we study ovarian and endometrial cancer. I stepped into this role the summer before the start of my freshman year, and I immediately knew that I wanted my future professional career to be within medicine, and being in this lab has really helped me understand the importance of reproductive cancer. There are certain moments where working in a lab can be challenging but the outcome is often worth it especially when you remember the core aspect as to why your lab exists. I cannot explain to you how grateful I am to be a part of a lab studying for such an important cause. 

Outside of the Thiel lab you can find me spending time with my friends and family, staying up to date on the newest rom-com books, and hanging out at local ice cream shops!
