GCRU Frequently Asked Questions

This is a great place to check first for any questions you may have regarding your GCRU Fellowship.  If you don't see the answer to your question here, please feel free to contact us at undergraduate-research@uiowa.edu.

How many hours are GCRU Fellows required to work?

Fellows are asked to put about 8 - 10 hours of work into their Fellowship per week during the Academic Year. Fellows are NOT expected to work during Finals Week.

Summer Fellows are asked to work 15-20 hours per week over the course of 10 weeks.

How does OUR track GCRU Fellowship hours?

We understand that Fellows are in professional settings. Time commitments will be under the purview of their faculty mentor.

How is funding disbursed?

Funding is disbursed as a scholarship through the MAUI system. This may impact Financial Aid, and should be discussed when applying.

OUR disburses funding twice during the Fellowship period. During the academic year, the funds are disbursed after the census date for classes to ensure all fellows are actively engage in their work for the Fall and Spring semesters. During the Summer, the funds will be disbursed half during the first week of the Summer semester and the other half the last week of June.

Funding first goes into the Fellow's University account. The funds are then applied to any balance on a Fellow's UBill before being refunded to the direct deposit account that the Fellow has set up with the University.

*Fellows who need to work out a different payment schedule should contact OUR directly.

What if I don't see my funding?

Check MyUI - under <Aid Disbursement>.  This page will show funding that you received and if there was any refund issued.  Please note that these funds will be used to cover UBill balances first.

If you are still not sure - contact OUR. We can track when funding was disbursed and refunded and help with next steps in tracking the funding's location.
