The Office of Undergraduate Research proudly presents 2025 EURA Winner Jackie Ott
Jackie Ott currently studies Human Physiology as a junior at the University of Iowa. Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology professor Erin Talbert facilitates Ott's research endeavors.
Describe your current project.
I focus on a signaling molecule (TGF-β) which contributes to severe muscle loss in cancer patients. I hope to better understand how TGF‑β disrupts normal cell metabolism and identifying potential pathways that could be targeted to prevent this.
What do you enjoy most about research?
I love that research gives me the ability to collect data and explore new areas of medicine which could benefit others in the future. I enjoy the opportunity to meet, learn from, and work with others who also love working within the field.
Outside of research and academics...
Outside of research, I volunteer at the university hospital. For fun, I enjoy golfing and hiking when the weather is nice and when stuck inside, I like to watch reality TV with friends.
She has major plans after graduation:
After graduation, my goal is to attend medical school with the hopes of becoming a physician.
Thank you for your contributions to our research community!
