The Office of Undergraduate Research proudly presents 2025 EURA Winner Nina Osborne
Nina Osborne currently studies Geographical and Sustainability Science (GIS track) and Environmental Policy and Planning (Policy track) as a junior at the University of Iowa. School of Earth, Environmental, and Sustainability professor Susan Meerdink facilitates Osborne's research endeavors.
Describe your current project.
My work uses hyperspectral imaging to monitor landscape-level patterns of tree health. I am currently examining Bur oak spectral responses to heat and high CO₂ to detect stress before it becomes visible.
What do you enjoy most about research?
I enjoy the opportunity to synthesize many skills and perspectives to explore new applications and avenues of knowledge. There is always another skill to learn and approach to try.
Outside of research and academics...
Outside of research, I work in the Admissions Visitor Center and Honors Program. I also enjoy running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and volunteering at the Iowa Raptor Project.
She has major plans after graduation:
After finishing undergrad, I plan to pursue a PhD in Geography to study ecosystem change through environmental remote sensing.
Thank you for your contributions to our research community!
