Allexis Mahanna

Biography

I am a senior currently working on two research projects. I just returned from a summer Spain, where I was funded by the Stanley Award for International Research, and performed a qualitative analysis on local migration responses in two cities. I am currently forming this in to my senior thesis project, under the advisement of Dr. Abrons. I additionally am working on a Public Health/Human Rights grant project, Promoting Culturally Appropriate Care for New Iowans, to identify and resolve gaps in the mental health treatment of refugees/immigrants. I previously conducted Biochemistry research focused on amyloid generation and functionality.

I also work as a Writing Center Tutor and Human Rights Intern, as well as run a local non-profit aimed at lessening single-use plastic in Iowa City. In my free time, I love going on bike rides, reading, and camping. If you have any questions about research, or just generally getting involved at Iowa, send me an email!
