The Office of Undergraduate Research proudly presents 2025 EURA Winner Sarah Guilfoyle

Sarah Guilfoyle currently studies Political Science as a junior at the University of Iowa. In addition, she is working toward International Studies, German, and Economics Minors. Department of Political Science Associate Professor and DEO Brian Lai, facilitates Guilfoyle's research endeavors.

Describe your current project.
In conjunction with Professor Lai, I am investigating the impact that age and generation have on U.S. Foreign Policy opinions. Through the Chicago Council Surveys, we have data on these opinions across four generations, from 1974 to 2024.

What do you enjoy most about research?
I really enjoy how research allows people to break down complex topics and find trends behind behavior. This analysis then leads to informed decision-making, improving the effectiveness of policy solutions.

Outside of research and academics...
Outside of research and academics, I embrace the creative opportunities available at the University of Iowa through the Color Guard Club and University Band.

She has major plans after graduation.
After I graduate, I plan to gain real-world experience in the political analysis field before pursuing a graduate degree.

Thank you for your contributions to our research community!
