Using Biological Multi-Omics to Determine Adverse Health Effects
Thursday, February 13, 2025
Student research assistants interested in exploring the impact of persistent organic pollutants and/or extreme heat on adverse health outcomes are encouraged to apply for this opportunity. This project, based at the UI Research Park, focuses on analyzing environmental contaminants in biological samples using cutting-edge techniques.
REU in Computing for Health and Well-being
Tuesday, February 11, 2025
The Computer Science Department at the University of Iowa will conduct a 10-week summer research program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Our site is motivated by the considerable strain on the U.S. healthcare system due to short-term challenges, such as those posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, and long-term trends, such as an aging U.S. population. Computer scientists are in a unique position to help solve these and other problems in health and well-being. Ten participants will join their faculty mentor's research group to work on interdisciplinary projects
Effects of Carbon Fiber Bracing on Patient Outcomes
Monday, February 10, 2025
Research assistants will have the opportunity to work with study participants who use carbon fiber custom dynamic orthoses (CDOs) for a number of conditions (e.g. traumatic lower limb injury, CMT). Lab procedures include biomechanical gait analysis sessions using motion capture cameras and force plates, physical performance measure testing, creation and application of study questionnaires, mechanical testing of CDOs, and data processing and analysis. A commitment of 10hrs per week (between 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday) is expected each semester, with a maximum of 20hrs available.
Sleep Disturbance in Psychiatric Disorders
Tuesday, February 4, 2025
Students in this lab will have the opportunity to assist data collection in behavioral, sleep EEG or MRI experiments, organize and maintain databases, and aid in preprocessing of data. They may receive training on EEG and MRI data acquisition, sleep scoring, RedCap, and MRI safety. This is an attractive position for those who are interested in pursuing graduate careers in neuroscience, clinical or cognitive psychology in the future. There is opportunity to conduct honor theses if the student’s research interest aligns with the goals of our lab, and they demonstrate commitment and excellence.
