How many hours are Fellows required to work?

Fellows are asked to put about 10 hours of work into their Fellowship per week during the Academic Year. Fellows are NOT expected to work during Finals Week.

Summer Fellows are asked to work 15-20 hours per week over the course of 10 weeks.

How does OUR track Fellowship hours?

We don't. Fellows and their mentors should work out a schedule that works for them. We understand that our Fellows are in professional settings that do not need our oversight.

Can students with a GPA of less than 3.0 still apply?

Yes. You can still apply. Preference is given to applicants with GPAs above a 3.0. This policy is intended to prevent stressing GPAs for applicants who may be over-extended or having a difficult time with coursework.

Low GPA does not predict a student's success or lack of success in research. OUR also understands that there can be multiple and complex reasons for a GPA below 3.0. Applicants who are just below the cut-off, show an upward trend in grades, or show a pattern of success in their research may still be considered.

How is funding disbursed?

Funding is disbursed as a scholarship through the MAUI system. This DOES affect Financial Aid, and may be a consideration in the decision to apply.

OUR disburses funding twice during the Fellowship period. During the academic year, this is $1000 (or $500 for a split Fellowship) a few weeks after the start of both the Fall and Spring semesters. During the Summer, this is $1250 (or $625 for a split Fellowship) both during the first week of the Summer semester and the last week of June.

Funding first goes into the Fellow's University account. The funds are then applied to any balance on a Fellow's UBill before being refunded to the direct deposit account that the Fellow has set up with the University.

*Fellows who need to work out a different payment schedule should contact OUR directly.

What do I do if I don't see my funding?

Contact OUR. We can track when funding was disbursed and refunded and help with next steps in tracking the funding's location.
