Project and Position Details
The Wright Laboratory is looking to bring onboard a highly motivated, mindful, and compassionate undergraduate student to serve as a software engineer to install, manage, and maintain the LabKey Server Scientific Data Management System (SDMS). The software engineer trainee will work closely with Dr. Wright and other professional software engineers in the field of computational proteogenomics to maximize utilization of mass spectrometry-based and cell biology-based experimental data that will be housed in the LabKey Server platform. The software engineer trainee will gain training and expertise of LabKey Server modules, which includes Sample Manager, Electronic Lab Notebook, and Panorama. This research position will also include the implementation of leading-edge bioinformatic software programs utilized in the analysis of proteogenomic and fluorescent microscopy datasets. The position is expected to lead to independent study and help prepare the trainee for a career as a software engineer in the biomedical sciences. Other Requirements:
A solid background in computer programming is required. Student should be comfortable in troubleshooting the installation of databases, installation in proteogenomic software programs, extraction of biological data from various file formats (e.g., Excel), and use of Python programming in the organization and the analysis of large-scale biochemical/fluorescent images, and proteomic datasets. Prior laboratory research experience not required.
