Project and Position Details

Position Summary:
The Flint Water Crisis Public Archive is a project in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, led by Dr. Louise Seamster, building an archive of documents about the Flint Water Crisis. We are seeking detail-oriented undergraduate students to assist in research tasks including public records research, data collection, and data entry.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct online research using publicly available sources (e.g., LinkedIn, company websites, academic directories) to research individuals and entities associated with the Flint Water Crisis.
  • Cross-check information for accuracy and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Accurately record and organize collected data in Google Sheets.
  • Follow research protocols to ensure consistency, accuracy, and ethical considerations in data collection.
  • Conduct additional research and data entry tasks as assigned.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the research team.
     
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a relevant field (social sciences, public health, communications, journalism, “pre-law,” etc)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to conduct thorough online research. Training will be provided for the required tasks, including spreadsheet management and internet search methods.
  • Experience with Google Workspace tools.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a larger group and meeting deadlines.
  • Previous coursework in sociology is a plus.
Time Commitment:  Approximately 20 hours a week for ten weeks at $15 an hour.

Start Date:  Summer semester only
