What is ICARE?

The Iowa Cancer Research Experience (ICARE) is a one-to-two-year full-time fellowship (beginning August 2024) provided by HCCC to prepare recent college graduates for doctoral degree programs in the cancer field. 

Fellows will receive stipend and benefits as well as the following activities and opportunities:

Activities included in the fellowship are mentored research experiences, professional development workshops, seminars and career coaching, travel to national conferences, and networking/community-building activities.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility requirements include:

  • US citizens or permanent residents
  • Members of an underrepresented group in the cancer workforce. 
  • Bachelor's Degree in any STEM major 
  • At least 2.5 GPA
  • Motivation and commitment

Mentors are specifically looking for those with bachelor's degrees in biology and health sciences.
