Position Details
Our laboratory investigates the role of T helper-2 pathway and TGF-beta in regulation of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and graft-versus-tumor response. GVHD is a lethal and devastating complication of bone marrow or hematopoietic cell transplantation, which are primarily performed to treat blood or marrow cell-derived cancer (leukemia, myeloma or lymphoma) by achieving a graft-versus-tumor response. We use preclinical animal models in our studies. Some of these models are developed in our laboratory. We are looking for motivated undergraduate students, who want to learn cellular immunology, especially to quantitate T lymphocyte responses and perform experiments together with our laboratory members.
Previous laboratory experience and knowhow in basic laboratory skills is desired. These skills can include cell culture, PCR, ELISA, or working with plasmid DNA besides others. We expect the applicants to commit 12-15 hours per week to research in order to learn cellular immunology and be productive.
Qualifications
We are interested in working with 1-2 additional undergraduate students in our laboratory. Our major focus is cellular immunology. We do not require cellular immunology knowledge but we prefer our recruits to have some basic laboratory skills.
